Lenovo Phab 2 Release Date, News & Update: First Tango Smartphone Features Google 3D Mapping, Augmented Technology; Better Than Google Pixel Handsets?

Lenovo Phab 2, the first ever consumer-ready Tango smartphone was introduced earlier this year at the Tech World. Although the new phone was set to launch in summer, there has been a delay, pushing for a release in November, as it begins to be compared against the Google Pixel handsets.

The new Lenovo Phab 2 is wider, denser and taller in terms of physical design, compared to the Google phone with a slightly sleeker appearance. Aside from that, the Lenovo device comes in a big 6.4-inch display, while Google Pixel is sporting a 5-inch AMOLED screen, and a higher resolution as well. Under the hood, the Pixel handset works in a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 while Phab 2 is reported to be powered by 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652.

Lenovo Phab 2 smartphone is expected to provide a tough competition in terms of performance given its higher amount of speed and cores, despite the latest processor inside the Google smartphone. The former is also reported to have a double internal storage capacity as the former.

Unlike the Pixel model, Phab 2 comes with an expandable storage capacity as well. While the Google handset sports the latest Android Nougat OS, Phab 2 is rumored to come with the Android 6.0 10 OS.

As for the camera features, the Lenovo model appears to be leading, with its 8 MP front camera and 16 MP rear cameras, against the 8 MP front and 12.3 rear camera of Google Pixel, according to report.

Meanwhile, the Lenovo Phab 2 is reported to use the new Project Tango from Google, which is the 3D mapping and augmented technology. This was announced in June this year, but was only made available on Tuesday. According to reports, there are more than 35 apps supported by Tango technology and can, in fact, be found in the Tango app itself, an in Google PlayStore. Also, the majority of the choices is currently for consumer or gaming apps.

Lenovo Phab 2 is available on the official Lenovo's website, beginning at $499, Tech Republic reported. Watch Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Review here:
