It's been seven years since "Game of Thrones" author and writer George R. R. Martin released his last book, and the HBO epic/fantasy series has already run the end of its source material as it heads into Season 7. But it looks like George R.R. Martin is finally picking up pace for the sixth book in his "A Song of Fire and Ice" saga, "The Winds of Winter."
Where GRRM is right now
According to several reports, the "Game of Thrones" author is currently proofreading "The Winds of Winter," possibly to fast-track its publication before "Game of Thrones" Season 7 airs on HBO next year. Part of its delay was attributed to speculations that George R.R. Martin was writing two books at once: "The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring."
Despite the delay, George R.R. Martin has generously given fans a glimpse of "The Winds of Winter" to tide them over the long wait. Over time, he's since dropped several chapters from the highly anticipated sixth "Game of Thrones" book, including a chapter depicting Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark ("Mercy"), Theon Greyjoy, and Sansa Stark ("Alayne"), reported CNET.
Spoilers for 'The Winds of Winter'
But what's the end game for the hugely popular "Game of Thrones"? Fans have been asking what "The Winds of Winter" has to offer to the series. A report from iDigitalTimes speculated that it's possible that Daenerys Targaryen will ascend to the throne in the book, albeit at the cost of her dragons. This is due to an anticipated battle between the White Walkers and the dragons--a literal song of ice and fire--and the need to subdue the magic surrounding both creatures.
So far, however, most of the events in "The Winds of Winter" has been covered in "Game of Thrones" Season 6. Stay tuned for more updates on the GRRM series.
