Twelve years have already passed since the release of the last "Half Life" installment. Game developer and publisher Valve has not released an official word since then, leaving fans questioning whether "Half Life 3" would indeed be happening or not. However, recent reports are suggesting that the much-anticipated game is already in the works.
'Half Life 3' VR?
There have been reports pointing out to a VR compatibility. This is after Valve had released an update for "DOTA 2" that contains an "HLVR" code. Although seemingly irrelevant, to the prying eye, this acronym could mean "Half Life Virtual Reality." While everything remains unconfirmed, "Half Life 3" has a good chance of supporting Virtual Reality technology out of the box.
Although this news should be taken with a grain of salt, this information lines up with previous "Half Life 3" rumors. Earlier, it has been reported that Valve has been working together with HTC to create a virtual reality environment for "Half Life 3." This is an unsurprising news, as HTC is one of the pioneering companies to venture into the VR technology with their Vive headset.
Gameplay Details
It has been reported that "Half Life 3" has a great chance of featuring a Kraken Base for its setting. This feature was supposedly included in "Half Life 2," but was met with a last-minute cut. Most, if not the entire gameplay of "Half Life 3" will be centered around the Kraken Base.
There are other reports suggesting that "Half Life 3" may be featuring a new underwater terrain and submarine. This is mostly in connection with the plot being set in the Kraken Base. Gordon must then be saved out of the Kraken Base, where Doctor Helena Mossman betrayed the research team.
Release Date
While there have been no confirmed release dates for "Half Life 3," it is expected to be released in 2018. However, Valve may still not make that deadline, as it still needs more time to finalize and polish "Half Life 3" into a great game that fans deserve, literally more than a decade in the making.
