'Acer R13' Latest News & Updates: Android Apps Are Now Supported By Chromebook Through Its Beta Channel

Acer initially shipped its new 13-inch R13 Chromebook to customers after a month of its release. However, it was released without Android apps.

Good thing that right now its functionality is just around the corner according to 9to5google. The Chrome Unboxed reported that the R13 now provides full support for Android apps via Chrome OS beta channel- the Chrome OS v55.

This functionality may be odd most especially if it will officially hit the R13, however, there is an assurance that it will become stable provided that the Chrome v55 becomes stable as planned this December.

On the other hand, if you have already bought the Acer R13, all you need to do is to check its functionality and upgrade it to the beta channel through the OS settings of Chrome. In order to do that, go to settings, click "About Chrome OS" at the top of the screen display, find "more info" and select "change channel".

From there, you should find and select beta. Wait until the update is downloaded and the system to automatically restart. That's about it. The next step is for users to test drive the new features of the Chromebook and enjoy Android capabilities, as explained by Android Authority.

At the same time, if the functionality is already stable, you are allowed to downgrade it using the same process. But, take note that you are required to reset it.

There are many more Chromebooks that are expected to be launched over the coming months. Of course, it is also expected that it already has Android app functionality. That means that the quick turnaround of Google to have Android apps for R13 indicates a promise that other new Chromebooks will have such too. This functionality will be obtained by many Chromebooks over the coming years.
