Microsoft In Talks to Relaunch Heroes On Xbox Live [RUMOR]

In  a major indication that Microsoft has not abandoned its plans to create original and exclusive content for the Xbox, a new rumor suggests that the software giant is looking to relaunch the super-power drama, Heroes, with an all new cast and direction.

Microsoft is in talks with NBCUniversal to resurrect its superhero drama, Heroes, via original programming on Xbox, TVLine reports. "Details remain sketchy, but sources confirm that Microsoft is interested in relaunching the once red-hot NBC Universal franchise with new stories and heroes, while mixing in cameos from the original series' cast (schedules and interest permitting). The talks are said to be in the preliminary stages," the report says.

It's expected that the new version of the show, if it comes together, would be broadcasted through the Xbox video service for the Xbox 360, next Xbox, Windows 8 and Surface tablets.

Microsoft had announced the sale of its IPTV platform Mediaroom earlier this month in a move to devote all of its TV resources to the Xbox. "With the sale of Mediaroom, Microsoft is dedicating all TV resources to Xbox in a continued mission to make it the premium entertainment service that delivers all the games and entertainment consumers want--whether on a console, phone, PC, or tablet," Microsoft corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi said in a statement at the time.

Heroes, the cult hit TV series ended its four-season run on NBC in Feb. 2010. The superhero TV series featured an ensemble cast that included Ali Larter, Zachary Quinto, Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia and Jack Coleman.
