Tim Miller, the well-known director of an American superhero film "Deadpool", is hired by Sony Pictures as an executive producer of the upcoming "Sonic the Hedgehog movie".
This project is in partnership with Jeff Fowler, who joins the film in his directorial debut. Both of them used to work together for more than a decade in an American visual effects, animation and design company Blur Studio, which Tim Miller co-founded.
They also teamed up on a cartoon animated short film "Gopher Broke" on 2004 which was nominated for an Academy Award. Fowler was the writer and the director at that time and Miller was the producer.
Miller said in The Hollywood Reporter how incredible Jeff is as a director having strong instincts. Directing the "Sonic the Hedgehog Movie" will be a great opportunity for him in order to leverage his animation experience and bring a new dimension to the iconic character of Sonic.
The parent company of Sega, Sega Sammy Holdings Inc., announced last February in a report in Polygon that it is working with Sony Pictures to provide for a combined live action and computer-generated film "Sonic the Hedgehog movie" that is scheduled to be released in 2018.
It is also said to be a family-oriented film with its hybrid animation. The script of the movie is written by Patrick Casey and John Miller, who also created the animated series "Golan the Insatiable" on Fox while the former is the writer of the show.
"Deadpool" is the feature film directing debut of Tim Miller that obtained a massive success at the box office for Fox this past winter pulling in 783.7 Million dollars. It has also been declared as the best debut ever for an R-rated film.
Fox immediately greenlit a new sequel who was again directed by Miller. However, it was reported that the project was not yet signed by him so it is not yet official and that he left due to creative differences.
