"Final Fantasy 15" kind of has a backward problem with regard to its storytelling and presentation. Almost all the playable protagonists are white pretty boys, an unusual choice for the game's leads considering the series has had its fair share of strong heroines comprising the main cast of characters in the past. Although some of their depictions may have been rather sexualized, at least there were women; making the main party almost completely a boys' club seems pretty problematic.
Fortunately, Game Rant reports that Square Enix is at least thinking about making female characters playable in the party. Supporting character Luna, one of the billed co-protagonists of "Final Fantasy 15," may be unlocked in future DLC. For those unaware, the gameplay of "Final Fantasy 15" is set up so that only the main protagonist Noctis is controllable by the player; Square Enix is considering DLC that will open up other members of the party to control.
French gaming site JeuxVideo interviewed Square Enix DLC director Haruyoshi Sawatari, and he did acknowledge the fans' clamor to play as Luna in "Final Fantasy 15." To his credit, he said that the team was considering the possibility; in all honesty, that feature shouldn't be that hard to implement. Another female character featured heavily, but as a sexualized NPC and not as a playable character, is Cindy -- the bikini-clad auto mechanic -- it should also be possible to play as her. Apparently, the game's story takes place over at least 10 years and there's no reason not to be able to play as other characters if it takes that long.
"Final Fantasy 15" is coming out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 29, after initially being pegged for a September release. There's no word yet about a possible PC port, but Square Enix did say they were considering it, but not making it a priority at all.
