Apple is expected to come out with something big as the world waits on what the iPhone 8 may possibly have to offer. Seeing the iPhone 7/ 7 Plus carrying minimal but acceptable changes, major iterations are expected in 2017.
As mentioned in a previous post, three variants have been rumored to be coming. They will differ in sizes – 4.7-inch, 5-inch, and 5.5-inch – though this claim remains to be seen. For now, Apple is expected to come out with its two traditional sizes, the standard and the ‘Plus’ version unless they say otherwise.
Among the features for the iPhone 8 may include an all-glass feature that will be aided by an aluminum frame, Business Insider reported. It will likely integrate wireless charging while the device’s antenna and a sensor may likely be relocated.
Most importantly, there is that long-running debate on the shift to OLED displays. To this day, Apple has yet to confirm such though Sharp CEO Tai Jeng-wu may have let the cat out of the bag.
According to Tai, the iPhone will is evolving and (may) be switching from LTPS to OLED panels during an address to students over at Tatung University, Nikkie reported. Tai admits that doesn’t know if Apple will go down the OLED route but believes avoiding it will mean no innovation and obvious opportunity lost.
Tai’s statements may be up for scrutiny though is point makes a lot of sense. Apple has fallen behind in the advancements category for mobile phones so it may be about time that they move past the LCD use and start embracing OLED technology which many are expecting.
Sharp will obviously play a pivotal role in the supply of OLED screens, a probable reason why the company is reportedly building a new OLED facility in Japan, Apple Insider reported. If not, Sharp can still manufactureOLED panels for the iPhone 8 in the United States, largely depending on the demand.
