Russel Westbrook tallies his second triple-double in just three games into the regular season. He finished the game with 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 16 assists in 33 minutes in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Westbrook had a monstrous triple-double in his last game versus the Phoenix Suns with 51 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. In their first game of the regular season, he was just one assist shy of a triple-double, finishing the game with 32 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists against the Philadelphia 76ers.
When Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors, there was never any doubt whose team OKC was going to be. Westbrook was never afraid of the limelight and played with a ton of intensity night-in and night-out whether Durant was in the lineup or not.
He's a sure MVP candidate for this season and OKC can only go where he takes them. He's OKC's point guard, leading scorer, energy guy and vocal leader. He also leads by example as his numbers show.
It's just three games into the regular season but he is already breaking all sorts of records. He is the first player since Magic Johnson (twice) to tally two triple-double in the first three games of the season. The other two players to achieve the same feat are Jerry Lucas and Oscar Robertson. He is the first player with at least 100 points, 30 rebounds and 30 assists in first three games of the season. Westbrook is the first player to score 50+ points in a triple-double since 1975
Last year, Westbrook led the league in most triple-doubles in a single season with 18 and joins Johnson who also achieved the same feat. "I just like to win," he said. "My job is to come out and do whatever it takes to win, and that's what I try to do every night," he added.
There are 79 more games to go for the regular season and it doesn't look like Westbrook is going to slow down anytime soon. If he continues this kind of play, he will break and set more individual records this season and in NBA history.
