The "Civilization" franchise is known for its support for mods so players could further tinker with the game and customize their experience. Just recently, a new mod is brought to the latest "Civilization 6."
Ludicrous Earth Map Size
Sid Meier's "Civilization 6" had just been released last week. Upon release, the game does not support Steam Workshop yet. However, modders still continue working on the game to give other players more customization options.
One "Civilization 6" modder that really ups the ante is Gedemon. His Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack adds the planet Earth in varying sizes to "Civilization 6." The Giant Earth map, clocking in at 180 x 96, was already huge. As if this was not enough, a new Ludicrous Map size was added, at a 230 x 115 option.
In the two available sizes, a total of 50 civs can be set in the Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack. Gedemon has also stated that the mod is currently in alpha 4 state. However, he has put the Ludicrous map to the test by running 500 turns in "Civilization 6" on autoplay with 32 civs without any issue. Bear in mind though that the setup Gedemon has been working on has an i7, 4770K CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 980 GPU, so it's pretty powerful.
Modder Warning
Fair warning though as Gedemon himself addressed potential players who will adopt the "Civilization 6" mod. "The giant map is already way above the size of the huge map, it may or may not load on your PC (and will take some time to do so)." He then adds that "the Ludicrous map is the max map size before the game refuses to load, and will take more than 4-5 minutes to load (or crash)."
He then suggests for "Civilization 6" players to lower the actual texture size in the video option. The game also uses up the entire 6GB of VRAM of Gedemon's GPU. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more "Civilization 6" news and updates!
