Here's Why Google Fiber Service Unlikely To Roll Out In New Cities; Future Possibilities Hinted [Though]

Google Fiber is unlikely to roll out in new cities, as the tech company is reported to discontinue the project of deploying a superfast Internet throughout the US. The people from the affected cities are expected to receive this news as a huge disappointment, as the Fiber product has reportedly been long awaited, to deliver faster speed and competition to their areas. Nevertheless, there are some reasons for the recent announcement.

Google Fiber: No Enough Demand

The Google Fiber is believed to have come too early. The product offers gigabit connectivity - the orders of magnitude are faster compared to what most consumers get nowadays. Given that, experts believe that the product is something that a lot of people could not find a use yet, considering its amount of bandwidth. In fact, reports suggest that even the likes of Netflix that need a much needed data, would only require a 25 megabits per second connectivity in general, which is 1 over 40th the amount of bandwidth being provided by the Google product.

Google Fiber Bundled TV: Expensive

Another consideration for providing Google Fiber service is  Americans' love for double or triple-play bundles that lowers the cost of availing Internet from the usual providers. In order to make these customers switch witch Fiber, the company must give an irresistible TV service offer of its own. In line with that, the price of getting video content has reportedly been the only biggest hindrance to the rollout, Washington Post reported.

Meanwhile, Google Fiber rollout was suppose to happen in San Jose, making it the biggest of the five South cities to get the product. In fact, the construction was reported to begin this summer. However, the company already pulled the plug.

According to San Jose communications director David Vossbrink, Google still wants to provide the Google Fiber service in the future. However, Vossbrink has no idea when would this happen and what it would look like, as the tech giant is on to exploring new technology,  ABC7 News reported.
