If reports are to be believed, Apple could be releasing a next-generation Apple TV in 2017 to celebrate the gadget's 10th birthday. Earlier reports suggested that the gadget was set for a 2016 release. However, a 2017 release seems more plausible.
While the Apple TV never really featured in the main portfolio of the company's products, with Apple updating it less often compared to its other gadgets, the ever-increasing demand for streaming media and other smart-home applications and gaming platforms have put the TV into the company's main portfolio.
Rumors suggest that the 5th Generation Apple TV will improve on its functions and features dramatically. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the Cupertino company has big plans for the Apple TV and the surrounding smart TV ecosystem.
Thus, Cook's comments on the future of the gadget at Apple's Q3 2016 earnings conference call have intrigued fans once again who are now expecting nothing less than dramatic when the next-generation Apple TV launches.
The gadget may have an upgraded interface that will enhance user experience a lot for those who are signed up to various content providers. Moreover, Apple may focus more on improving the software rather than the hardware of the Apple TV, writes Recode.
As per Recode, Apple could be developing a software-based program guide. In fact, the Apple TV maker mentioned it while speaking on tvOS 10 at WWDC in June. There is a new feature on tvOS 10 that allows users to sign in once with a login id and password.
Once done, the operating system will automatically sign in to all services such as Prime Video, Amazon, Netflix to name a few. Apple is also reportedly in talks with content providers for creating a trusted and simple interface that would enable users to access and browse everything they want.
