The Chicago Cubs take down the Cleveland Indians 5-1 in Game 2 of the 2016 World Series to even the series at one game apiece. The win is the Cubs' first in a World Series since 1945.
Cubs' starter Jake Arrieta outdueled the Indians' Trevor Bauer to get the win for Chicago. Arrieta struggled with his command but was still able to get through 5 2/3 innings allowing just one run, six strikeouts and three walks. He even managed to pitch a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings until he gave up a double to Indians' Jason Kipnis. Meanwhile, Bauer was only able to last just 3 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, six hits, two strikeouts, and two walks.
The Cubs offense was provided by Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo, and Ben Zobrist but the biggest story of the night for the Cubs offense belonged to Schwarber. Schwarber only played two regular season games due to an ACL and LCL tear he suffered back in April. He spent the last six months rehabbing his left knee but stayed with the team throughout the entire season.
Prior to the start of the World Series, it was announced that the Cubs were going to include Schwarber in their World Series roster. Cubs manager Joe Maddon believed that he would be able to contribute even though he missed pretty much the entire season. "He missed the entire year physically," said Maddon, "but he has not missed the entire year mentally."
The Cubs all-time postseason home run leader came up big in Game 2, reaching base three times with two hits and a walk, scored a run, and batted in two runs.
Game 3 of the series will resume on Friday at Wrigley Field. It will be the first World Series game in Chicago in 71 years and you can expect that fans will come roaring for the home team.
