After their costumes were hinted as Avatar items in the Xbox Live Marketplace, the idea was circling that lesser known DC villains Ares and Killer Frost would eventually show up in NeatherRealm's upcoming fighter "Injustice: Gods Among Us." That's since been confirmed, thanks to a tweet from Warner Bros. own Brandon Alexander.
The tweet has since been deleted, but not before some more resourceful folks were able to grab the image. If the text is any indication, the image is from a Russian build. Ares and Killer Frost are a bit hard to make out, but they can be seen on the right hand of the screen, second row from the bottom, next to Doomsday.
As any Kratos fan knows, Ares is the Greek God of War, and is a longtime enemy of the Amazon, Wonder Woman. In the comics, he's traditionally depicted as a monolithic character, usually standing head and shoulders above most members of the Justice League, but what would you expect? He's a God after all. Whether he's as statuesque in the game remains to be seen.
Killer Frost's inclusion is a bit more surprising. She debuted as an enemy to Firestorm, but has had her run-ins with various DC heroes, but usually as a secondary character. Given NeatherRealm's fondness for characters with cryokinesis, we probably should've seen it coming (though I think Mr. Freeze would've made a better addition). It's nice to see that they're shedding light on some lesser knowns.
Count up the total characters seen in the image, and we're at 24, which is right where NeatherRealm said it would be. However, we should be able to expect some interesting characters to hit as DLC sometime after launch.
Notes Ed Boon, NeatherRealm's Creative Director, "With 'Mortal Kombat,' we brought in crazy guests like Freddy Krueger. So we'll definitely want to introduce unexpected characters [via DLC] to Injustice. That'll be our strategy. It's comparable to Mortal Kombat, but being really aggressive with our DLC characters."
