It looks like "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" has everything the fans are looking for this December. The "Star Wars" standalone film has a strong female lead in Felicity Jones, an amazing cast, an original story and most of all, it has DARTH VADER.
Not the sand-hating Anakin Skywalker that appeared in the prequels but the cruel Sith Lord who cut off his son's hand in a lightsaber battle. And that is why Ben Mendelsohn couldn't help but geek out while he was shooting his first scene with the iconic villain.
Ben Mendelsohn Goes Full-On Fanboy While Shooting 'Rogue One' Scene With Original 'Star Wars' Villain Darth Vader
Can anyone really blame him? "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards admitted that he couldn't help but be absolutely "respectful" of Darth Vader whenever the character enters a scene.
Although Edwards was aware that it was just an actor playing the villain, everyone addressed this man properly because of the character he represents. No one understands this more than Ben Mendelsohn, who plays the new Imperial officer Director Orson Krennic.
Gareth Edwards shared an awesome story with USA Today, revealing that Ben Mendelsohn actually called for him while shooting a "Rogue One" scene where Krennic is in the presence of the Sith Lord. It turned out that Mendelsohn was so excited about filming with the iconic Darth Vader. "It was like no one wanted to admit that they’re having a little fanboy freak-out but everyone did," Edwards stated.
Will Darth Vader Be The Main Villain In 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'?
It would be awesome if the film would be known as "Rogue One: A Darth Vader Story", but Gareth Edwards is careful not to show too much of the Sith Lord in the "Star Wars" standalone movie. It was revealed that the villain will only have a few scenes in the film, which should shine the spotlight on Ben Mendelsohn's awesomely caped Director Krennic. James Earl Jones will return to provide the voice of Darth Vader in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", which premieres on December 16.
