Apple is expected to launch a new iteration of the iPad Pro, which is currently dubbed as iPad Pro 2. The first 12.9-inch model was released in September 2015 and another iPad Pro was released in March this year with a smaller 9.7-inch screen. Apple's recent September event has come and gone but somehow there wasn't any reference to a new iPad Pro.
Apple has confirmed a Mac-related launch event this week, which most Apple fans believe is a venue for the debut of the MacBook Pro 2016. While it is possible for a surprise iPad Pro 2 launch, tech experts believe that this is unlikely since rumors are not so rampant when it comes to the tablet. With that said, several media outlets now believe the tablet will arrive sometime next year.
There was, however, an image sent to Apple Insider back in July, which is believed to be the iPad Pro 2. The tipster allegedly got the photo from a Chinese supplier that's currently handling the new iPad Pro and that production is said to start late in September. This device is expected to be slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. It is also rumored to have a water-resistant feature and the headphone port is also absent.
The iPad Pro 2 is also rumored to come in three variants, according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo - a 12.9-inch model, a 10.5-nch variant and the most affordable of them all, a 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2. The two larger screened variants are said to run on an A10X processor. On the other hand, the 9.7-inch variant is rumored to keep the current A9X chipset, since it is the lower-end option out of the three.
As for the release date, iPad Pro 2 is expected to arrive in 2017. Rumors suggest that the launch date will happen in March next year, the same time when iPad Pro 9.7 was introduced. At this point, nothing is certain yet so fans should just wait for the official details from Apple.
