Sony says the company’s next generation PlayStation 4 console aims to broaden its base of young, male gamers and by appealing to women and families as well.
Andrew House, President and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, promises to bring in more female fans and gamers into the world of PS4, which is set to come out this holiday season. The PS4 is Sony's first major console release in seven years.
“We are not going down the route of making the console pink of course. I think the key is to have people — and increasingly women — with different sensibilities creating different games. It is not all about shoot ’em up games,” he tells The Sun, a British newspaper.
While House also wants the new PlayStation 4 to appeal more to families in general, he believes improvements on the console, “such as a new touchpad on the controller will help Sony tap into the market for worldwide hits such as 'Angry Birds.'”
He explains that in order to achieve this, the key is getting the game developers who are going to make the next "Angry Birds" excited about the next generation console from Sony. House is pretty sure that these developers are already excited about the new prospect.
