Nokia Lumia 810 users get ready for some bad news.
Everyone who bought the device based on T-Mobile's promise that it would unlock the Band 4 LTE hidden inside the device is out of luck. As it turns out, T-Mobile confirms it will not be unlocking the LTE on the device.
T-Mobile’s LTE network recently went live in seven city regions, and earlier this year the carrier said it planned to quickly expand its coverage to at least 100 million users in the U.S. by the middle of the current year.
This decision is a blow to the company. If it’s really aspiring to cover that much area in the country by the middle of 2013 it will miss everyone who bought a Lumia 810 thinking the unlock would apply to them.
T-Mobile released a short statement:
“While the Nokia Lumia 810 features a chipset, which provides the hardware capability to support both HSPA+42 and LTE, the device will not automatically access our LTE network and, at this time, it will not receive an update to do so. We'll share additional information on upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 810 when they are available.”
This is rather poor show by T-Mobile for making a promise and then suddenly changing it. We'll have to wait and see how the company responds to the backlash from its disgruntled users.
