When Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) was killed at the end of "Narcos" Season 2, fans thought that it was the series finale. However, "Narcos" producers Jose Padilha and Eric Newman recently confirmed that the Netflix series will continue for a Season 3 and Season 4, at least.
Independent reported that the cast members of "Narcos" Season 3 has been announced. The story will now focus on the Cali cartel, after the fall of Escobar, head of the Medellin cartel.
Kerry Bishe has been cast as Christina, an American woman with a Colombian husband who is a member of the Cali cartel. Other confirmed actors for "Narcos" Season 3 include Michael Stahl-David, who will play Chris Feistl, a young DEA agent, and Matt Whelan, who will play the former's partner, Daniel Van Ness.
Pedro Pascal was confirmed to reprise his role as DEA agent Javier Pena in "Narcos" Season 3. It is still uncertain whether Boyd Holbrook will return to play DEA agent Steve Murphy.
The Hollywood Reporter stated that according to Eric Newman, "Narcos" Season 3 will be a schematic sequel. The show will be reinvented in the next two seasons, with Pablo Escobar being replaced by the pervasive and more insidious Cali cartel. The "Narcos" cartel reportedly had a corruptive influence that went well beyond the outlaw.
Newman also intends to add more new characters and points of view in "Narcos" Season 3, similar to how he featured Limon (Leynar Gomez), and his relationship with Maritza (Martina Garcia), in Season 2. The producer explained that they like to tell the story of some of the unknown individuals involved in the drug war and those who were affected by it. "Narcos" fans should expect more equally captivating stories to arrive.
Before "Narcos" Season 3, Pena was asked for details about the Cali cartel, hinting that the story will continue after Escobar's death. In real life, both Pena and Murphy left Colombia after the death of the drug kingpin and were no longer part of the search for the Cali cartel.
Although Pena was confirmed to return, Murphy may officially exit the show with Moura. Holbrook is currently transitioning to movies and will appear in "Logan" next. "Narcos" Season 3 will air in 2017.
