The first "Gilmore Girls" Fan Festival launched on Oct. 21, 2016 in Washington Depot, Connecticut. A behind-the-scenes panel was available featuring several members of the production team. It was also revealed that Ryan Gosling was almost cast in "Gilmore Girls."
Vulture reported that Michael Ausiello of TVLine helmed the panel, consisting of "Gilmore Girls" writer and producer Sheila Lawrence, consulting producer and writer Stan Zimmerman, and dialogue coach George Bell. It also included casting directors Mara Casey and Jami Rudofsky, costume supervisor Valerie Campbell.
The panel discussion lasted for one hour, where several details about "Gilmore Girls" were covered. Rudofsky was asked whether there were any actors who were almost cast in "Gilmore Girls."
Rudofsky shared that there was one young handsome blond star whom she cast in an independent film before she worked on "Gilmore Girls." The actor was allegedly late when they met before the audition and it did not help much that he was blond.
However, he was amazing, so Rudofsky decided to let him audition for a small football character role. The audition did not go well in the end. Ryan Gosling skipped "Gilmore Girls" as a result.
Bustle wrote that in other "Gilmore Girls" revival stories, one fan theory involved Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Caesar (Aris Alvarado) being classmates at Chilton. It was revealed that the Gilmore Girls Fan Festival that the rumor was actually true.
Alvarado confirmed that he was the actor in a scene in an episode in "Gilmore Girls" Season 1, titled "Rory's Dance." Caesar was an onlooker during the confrontation between Redmond (Tristan Jarred) and Dean (Jared Padalecki). The actor further stated that Caesar and Rory went to the same high school, although he could not have shared classes with Rory because he was one or two years ahead of her.
Alvarado will reprise his role as Caesar in the upcoming "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." The new show will most likely feature a lot of nostalgic scenes. Several of the original cast members will be coming back.
The panel at the "Gilmore Girls" Fan Festival closed with Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and Rory joining the group onstage. The two shared memories of the late Edward Herrmann, who used to play their husband and father on the show.
