Fans of Naughty Dog's survival horror game, "The Last of Us," are already looking forward to another adventure story of protagonists Ellie and Joel. However, the developer hasn't confirmed anything yet and it remains to be seen if the studio will work on "The Last of Us 2" very soon. For years, there have been speculations that development of the game has already started but recent reports suggest otherwise.
It was believed that Naughty Dog's other franchise, "Uncharted," is coming to an end with the release of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" earlier this year. It had been reported that Nathan Drake's adventure will conclude in the 2016 game. With that said, it is assumed that Naughty Dog will finally touch on "The Last of Us 2." After all, the studio confirmed that it already has ideas for the sequel but all these have been put on hold when "Uncharted 4" was still in development. Game creator Neil Druckmann was quoted telling Game Informer last year, "We have brainstormed sequel ideas for The Last of Us, and we've brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on Uncharted 4."
Now, reports of "Uncharted 5" possibly happening have surfaced and there are rumors suggesting that Naughty Dog will shift its priorities and hold off once again on "The Last of Us 2." Then again this could be unlikely since Druckmann already made it clear that Nathan Drake's story ended in "A Thief's End" but if he does return, Naughty Dog won't be on board. "If [new developers] made a great game I'd be excited, [...] I'd want to play an Uncharted I didn't work on. It'd be a lot of fun," he told GamesRadar.
With Druckmann's statement, it is now assumed that Naughty Dog will focus on pushing through with "The Last of Us 2." It is believed that the game should be ready by 2018, giving a five-year gap between the previous installment and the rumored one. Stay tuned to GamenGudie for more updates.
