'Sneakers' Air Date Spoilers, News & Update: NBC's New TV Series Will Be Based On Phil Alden Robinson's 1992 Film?

A reboot of the classic movie "Sneakers" is now in development as NBC is now planning for a TV series adaptation. However, the network has no announcement yet when will this hit the small screen.

"Sneakers" is a 1992 film starred by Robert Redford as Martin Bishop. He heads a group of computer specialists who tests the security of some companies in San Francisco. They hack a computer system to check whether a company's security has flaws and can be hacked easily by hackers.

From then, someone from National Security Agency (NSA) asked his help to steal a black box which was invented to crack any encryption code. Martin acknowledged the job considering the possible threat that black box can do if it goes to the wrong hands, but sooner he realized that the NSA officer he spoke with is a rogue one.

According to The Wrap, NBC bought the script for the proposed series based on the hacker drama movie "Sneakers." The network approached the husband/wife producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald for a possible series adaptation of the movie since Parkes was a co-writer of the 1992 film.

Moreover, in a report by Empire, the upcoming "Sneakers" TV series will be produced by the same duo Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. The former "The Mentalist" executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi will pen the script and be the overall creative authority of the program.

Also, "Sneakers" is not the only 90s film that is in development for TV adaptation. In MovieHole report, ABC taps "Enemy of the State" movie, starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman, which will be set two decades after the original film.

Meanwhile, NBC has not provided any information yet about the casting of "Sneakers" and how each episode will run in the series. It is now a question if how the producers of "Sneakers" will make it interesting to viewers, especially NBC's division USA Network also airs "Mr.Robot" with a similar theme.
