Dylan O'Brien 'Maze Runner 3' Injuries Required Facial Reconstruction?

So is it possible that O'Brien's character will look completely different in "The Death Cure"? Some believe that in "Maze Runner 3",Thomas will get a similar look to O'Brien's Mitch Rapp in "American Assassin", complete with five o'clock shadow and longer hair.

There is a possibility that it won't just be Dylan O'Brien who will look different in the third "Maze Runner" film. After all, director Wes Ball has already confirmed that the movie will fast forward to a year after the events in "The Scorch Trials" (via Collider).
This could easily explain why Thomas would have an older appearance in "Maze Runner 3". In addition to that, it would be a simple way to cover up any scars from O'Brien's facial surgery after the accident (via CinemaBlend).
