T-Mobile only recently announced that the company will be selling the iPhon. There are already reports that the jailbroken iPhone 5 is supporting the LTE service from T-Mobile.
Although the phone’s radio compatibility will only be available in new T-Mobile models, and existing AT&T-compatible GSM models can’t be software upgraded to perform the same, a new report states the a jailbreak hack offers high-speed T-Mobile access to certain extent.
LeiMobile, which posted the steps to enable LTE on iPhone 5 for T-Mobile, states that users need to “understand that if you have a Verizon iPhone 5 you will not be able to connect to T-Mobile’s LTE network. It does not have the correct LTE band. Currently T-Mobile only has a few cities listed that have support for LTE and they are upgrading towers all year long.”
The new jailbreak also contradicts Apple's announcement that purchasing a new AWS-enabled variant of the iPhone 5 is necessary to get on T-Mobile’s network. Basically, this only enables LTE AWS support for T-Mobile and won’t allow users to access HSPA+ 42Mbps on 1700mhz similar to Apple’s new A1428 variant.
T-Mobile said on Tuesday that the company is planning to carry the iPhone on its new no-contract, no-subsidy, monthly installment plans starting at $99 down for the iPhone 5. The carrier also announced the launch of its new LTE network, which went live in Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Baltimore, Washington DC, San Jose, and Phoenix.
The network will be available to users in New York City by early summer.
