The game, which received generally positive reviews, was based on the film "Total Recall" and is set in planet Mars in the late 21st century. The game was produced by Robert Loftus and written by Michael Breault, Jason Scott, and Maureen Tan.
The latest news surrounding "Red Faction" is that the 2001 game may finally be coming to PlayStation 4. According to Digital Spy, the European rating group PEGI has re-rated the game for PlayStation 4, indicating that the 2001 game may finally be coming to the Sony console.
One of the most acclaimed features of "Red Faction" was its GeoMod technology, and fans are eager to see if the PlayStation 4 version will still have that feature, or if there is new content to look forward to. While there's no official word yet from THQ, it seems that "Red Faction" for PlayStation 4 is already in the works, given the new rating by PEGI.
According to PlayStation Lifestyle, THQ did announce that "Red Faction" has been removed from Germany's "list of media harmful to young persons." THQ says that there are positive implications to the removal, which implies that they may truly be already on the way to releasing a PlayStation 4 version of the game.
THQ Publishing Director Jans Binsmaier said that they are going to adopt a "bold approach" to this move by Germany, and some fans are hoping that this will come in the form of a new "Red Faction" release for PlayStation 4.
"Red Faction" was followed up by "Red Faction 2" in 2002, as well as "Red Faction: Guerilla" in 2009, when it was released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.
