After leaving his phone in his car, an Australian surfer and owner of the new iPhone 7 came back to see a vehicle filled with smoke. The incident happened last week and Apple is fully aware of the incident and has launched a full investigation. This is not the first time Apple has had its newly released phone suddenly catching on fire.
The Australian surfer Mat Jones reportedly left his iPhone 7 inside the pocket of his jeans and left it in his car. After hitting the waves, he came back only to see that the inside of his vehicles was already foggy, according to Australia's 7 News. The phone was later found inside already melting through the garments.
Apple sent a spokesperson to Business Insider to inform them that they are aware of the iPhone 7 incident and that they are looking into what might have caused it. This is not the first time an iPhone 7 has reportedly caught fire, as there have been a previous report of an iPhone 7 Plus that caught fire while still in the transit, before reaching a user.
Despite these incidents, there is no upcoming recall of the iPhone 7. The company is yet to determine whether they have missed certain quality checks along the way, but the surfer says that he has never dropped the phone nor used a foreign charger to power the device. In addition, his unit is still a week old.
Apple is yet to determine what caused the explosion, but they are confident that there is no problem with the phone's circuit board. The most likely cause of the explosion might be the lithium-ion batteries -- the same component that caused explosions in Samsung Note 7s.
