US Adults Surveyed Unaware Of High Nicotine Deposits Indoors From E-cigarrettes: What You Need To Know Now

Most adults from the United States were surveyed in 2015 about their view with regard to the prohibition of smoking using e-cigarette in public places. Two thirds of the respondents agreed that it should not be allowed and the rest said that it could be allowed provided that such device will only be used within the vicinity of their homes.

On one hand, there are already respondents that were aware of the nicotine deposits that are excreted after exhaling vapors from e-cigarrete. The research abstract also contains the belief of households of the harmful effects to children and this was recently presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2016 National Conference & Exhibition in San Francisco.

The data to which the study was analyzed was based on the 2015 Social Climate Survey of Tobacco Control and 68 percent of the 3070 population of adults said that they prohibit the use of e-ciggarettes inside their homes and 77 percent of which said that they prohibit its use inside their vehicles. Eighty four percent of the respondents said that smoking should be prohibited in public and 74 percent said that parents should not smoke in front of their children.

Yet, according to an associate professor of psychology at Mississippi State University and the abstract author of the study, Robert McMillen, PhD, the potential danger that e-cigarettes could bring is uncertain to adults according to a report in Science Daily.

The study further analyzed that e-cigarette users, smokers, males, as well as younger adults between ages 18 to 24, adults without children in the household and adults with lower levels of education seemed to have no household rules against the use of e-cigarrettes.

According to a statement made by McMillen in Eurek Alert, the findings indicate that people, especially parents, should be given education about the risks of toxic exposure that e-cigarretes give. This could also help parents to free their homes and vehicles not just from e-cigarette emissions but also from tobacco smoke.
