PlayStation 4 Beta Sites Are Scams, Sony Warns

Sony has sent out a warning that all the websites asking for personal information to gain a chance to beta test the PlayStation 4 platform are fake.

Several web sites have reportedly been offering ways to get into PlayStation 4 beta testing requiring people to enter their personal details and Sony says these are scams and any information collected will be most likely used for nefarious purposes.

The alert came via the official PlayStation Europe Twitter account which said, "Just a reminder: Any sites asking you to enter details to sign up for PS4 Beta testing are scams."

Games like GTA V have been hit by such trickery in the past. There are only a select set of developers with access to the PS4 currently. At the moment, no solid information about the price or exact design of the console is available, and there is definitely no public beta testing going on now.

Although PS4 was revealed in late February, the device is slated to launch during the holiday season this year.

Microsoft has yet to announce its much-awaited next generation Xbox console; however, akin to Sony's alert, the company had earlier warned its gamers of fake Xbox 720 sites. As Game Spot notes, it's expected that Microsoft will unveil the Xbox 720 during a one-off event in April and it's highly likely that both the Xbox 720 and PS4 will be available in stores this holiday.
