Zombie Studios has released the first video footage of its procedurally generated psychological thriller, Daylight, an Unreal Engine 4-powered horror game.
The protagonist in the game apparently explores an abandoned location with just a phone in her hands for illumination. The main character is seen with flares and glowsticks as she walks around an abandoned hospital.
The phone works as a warning device that alerts the player when psycho phantoms are prowling in the vicinity and acts as a compass and makeshift flashlight. In what seems to be an act of exorcism, the player cleans up creepily possessed dolls and teddy bears in the procedurally generated hospital she's wandering around in.
Zombie Studios claims that no two gameplay sessions will be alike. The studio says the game is best played alone in the dark and each session lasts around half-an-hour. This would mean that players will have to undertake multiple runs to figure out the full story. Every new game will feature a new world with new content and encounters.
"Different players will have a totally different experience," Zombie Studios' creative director Jared Gerritzen tells PC Gamer. "You're essentially a rat in a cage, but the cage is an asylum and it's scary as hell. You need to find your way out, and each time you do it it's completely different."
The game is expected to arrive sometime in 2013 with a price tag of $20 on Steam.
