Reports suggest that Microsoft is bringing its Band line to an end. However, recently a leaked image in the Windows Central forum revealed that a successor to the Microsoft Band 2, the Microsoft Band 3, was indeed in the works.
As per the leak, the Microsoft Band 3 was being made completely waterproof for the first time, specifically meant for swimmers. Moreover, the device would have tracked blood pressure with built-in EKG and radio frequency identification (RFID) support, rumors suggest. It is not known why Microsoft abruptly ended its line of fitness trackers. A user who goes by the name FUD Hater, posted the image on the forum but chose not to reveal the source due to NDA concerns, writes Tech Radar.
This has led many to believe that the leak is not valid despite the image looking quite convincing and in line with what Microsoft would have done with the Microsoft Band 3. However, the company has formally mentioned that it is not planning to release a fitness tracker in 2016 though it would continue to support the software for Microsoft Band 2.
The leak revealed that the Microsoft Band 3, which was in the works, would have been a more comfortable one with a new clasp mechanism and slimmer design than its predecessor. Had the device been released, it could have easily beaten other trackers with its advanced sensors.
As per The Verge, Microsoft said that it is still deeply committed in supporting its customers and exploring the wearable space. However, tech enthusiasts believe that the company has ended the Band line. The Band team has also been reportedly transferred to other projects. Microsoft has not released any official statement regarding the Band 3 and has neither denied nor confirmed these rumors. Stay tuned on GameNGuide for more updates on Microsoft Band 3 wearable.
