'SimCity' Releases Patch 1.7 To Fix Traffic Issues, Server Capacity

EA put out a new patch 1.7 for "SimCity" which the developer Maxis hopes will address the traffic and path finding bugs in the game.

"SimCity's" launch was plagued with capacity issues during its launch in North America, Canada, Russia, and parts of Asia. Traffic congestion and emergency vehicle driving tendencies in the game were also major issues.

The 1.7 patch includes the following fixes:

 - Traffic Improvements: Tuned traffic congestion and fixed some intersection traffic issues.

 - Traffic improvements: Emergency Vehicles will drive in empty lanes to get around traffic at intersections.

 - Traffic improvements: Emergency and Delivery vehicles get priority over regular traffic when leaving garage.

 - All units and buildings can now be demolished using the bulldoze tool.

 - Performance improvements for low spec systems.

 - New Server: Asia 2 will be released Tuesday afternoon (PDT)

The update follows "SimCity" lead designer Stone Librande saying last week problems would be fixed soon.

SimCity got off to a nightmare start with hundreds of players complaining about being unable to download, install, or run the game. Many players reported that they had to wait nearly 30 minutes to get on to a server to even play a single player game. The original EA discussion forums are filled with complaints about error codes, installation failures and the game not showing up in EA's client.

However, EA pinned the initial complaints on the overwhelming demand for the game and later announced that the game sold more than a million copies since its launch two weeks ago. Nearly 44 percent of sales were made through EA's digital distribution platform Origin. The company also claims players put in more than 15 million hours of online game play with more than 5.7 million cities being built and 780 million buildings created.

EA recently increased the server capacity of SimCity title by 400 percent in an effort to battle connection issues that have plagued the game since its release.
