"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is premiering this week and fans are looking forward to this season for several reasons. Season 8 is the final season of The CW series and rumors about Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) return have been making the rounds for some time now. The network has yet to confirm if Dobrev will really return for the final season, but other cast members have already dropped some major spoilers about the series.
Just last month, the first batch of set photos from "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 was released, revealing Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is back to his old, evil ways in which he'd lure victims by playing dead in the middle of the road. This time, he has his pal Enzo (Michael Malarkey) with him to help out. In an interview with E! News, Somerhalder explains more about his character, saying how Damon has completely lost it.
"Damon's a bit of a loose cannon. His girl is in a box, he's been through hell and high water, and so him being susceptible to this sort of new energy just sort of feeds into the times," Somerhalder said in the interview. He also revealed that he and Enzo have been possessed by this unknown entity and both of them will struggle with it. Damon's brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley) comes into the picture and with that said, Somerhalder teases that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will definitely have a ton of mayhem.
As for the mysterious being that possessed Damon and Enzo, the production has managed to keep details under wraps. King revealed that this evil seduced Damon and Enzo, while Matt Davis, who plays Alaric, gave some hints about the identity of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 big bad. "It's a pretty epic twist and take on an old mythology," Davis said.
Meanwhile, a video from TV Guide (watch below) features "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 cast members sharing six spoilers, but only one happens to be true. One of the probable spoilers, which was shared by Somerhalder, is that a "fan-favorite couple will finally get together." Speculation is heavy that Somerhalder has finally hinted about Elena's return since Elena and Damon have always been fans' favorite.
Will Damon and Elena finally have their happy ending? Find out as "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 premiers on Friday, Oct. 21, 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
