The release of Galaxy S4 and the rumors about the upcoming iPhone 5S have triggered a flood of price cuts for some of Samsung's and Apple's newest devices. RadioShack, a consumer electronics retailer, is now offering up to $150 in savings on soon to be outdated smartphones such as Samsung's Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S.
RadioShack is now discounting a slew of leading devices when taken with a new two year contract. The best deal out of the three devices seems to be that of Galaxy S3. It's now $49.99 with a new Sprint account and a two-year contract. The original on-contract price of the device was $199.99. That's a saving of $150. "If you bring in an old device to trade in with the "Trade & Save" program, you could get that down to $0 quite easily as well. As is usually the case, line upgrades will be charged a $50 premium over new sign-ups," Android Central reports.
If you are an iDevice fan, it's the right time to score as RadioShack cut the prices of iPhone 5S and its predecessor iPhone. Customers can save up to $50 on the smartphones with a new Sprint plan. It's an in-store only deal and you cannot get the discount online.
Its likely other retailers will follow suit, especially on Galaxy S3 as its successor, the all new Galaxy S4, hits the stores in a few months' time.
According to a recent study by price comparison website Idealo, a six month wait to buy the next-generation Samsung smartphone could save you up to 25 percent. The study finds that the prices of Galaxy S2 and S3 declined by almost 15 percent after three months and almost 25 percent after six months. "If this trend were repeated for the S4, buyers would be able to purchase the handset outright for three-quarters of the original price half a year after its release," Phones Review notes.
