Fans have been longing to see Tony Stark wear the iron suit once again and get back in action in another "Iron Man" movie. There have been several reports suggesting that Robert Downey, Jr. will no longer reprise his role as the iconic cocky billionaire and that "Iron Man 4" will never happen. However, if box office figures of previous "Iron Man" installments would dictate the fate of a fourth movie, fans will likely see Downey, Jr. back on the big screen as Tony Stark.
Several reasons as to why Marvel won't give the green light to "Iron Man 4" have also been in the rumor mill. One of them is how Robert Downey, Jr. is said to be demanding higher compensation to portray the iconic role. It was also suggested that "The Judge" actor will be too old to portray as Stark. However, people forget that there's undeniable success in other "Iron Man" movies, which would only mean that a sequel from Marvel would be inevitable.
Forbes reported that Marvel wouldn't be doing so well if it weren't for Tony Stark - or more importantly if it weren't for Robert Downey, Jr. playing as Tony. This suggests that Marvel will be better off if "Iron Man 4" will be pushed through. The report further noted that any MCU films that have Downey Jr. in it rake up more millions compared to the ones that do not. Specifically, it was mentioned that the first and second movie in 2D garnered $585 million and $623 million, respectively. This is compared to "Thor's" $449 million in 3D, "The Incredible Hulk's" $262 million in 2D, and "Captain America: The first Avenger's" $371 million in 3D.
Despite these numbers, it remains to be seen if "Iron Man 4" will really be materialized. MCU still has three untitled movies coming in the future and fans can only hope that "Iron Man 4" will be one of them.
