As Electronic Arts (EA) wraps up Battlefield 3 with the upcoming last piece of DLC "Endgame," it seems the next game is almost here. According Geoff Keighley, host of GT.TV, Battlefield 4 will officially be released on March 26. Meanwhile, the promo art for Battlefield 4 has been leaked giving us more details about the upcoming game. EA is likely to release 'Battlefield 4' for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms in addition to PS4 and Xbox 720.
"It's official: "Battlefield 4" unveiling happens on March 26 in San Francisco," Keighley said in a tweet. His prediction is well in line with the earlier news that EA plans to hold a Battlefield 4 event on March 26. In an invitation sent to the media, EA said the event will 'celebrate a new era of Battlefield.' "The presentation will take place during the 2013 Game Developers Conference, slated for March 25-29 in San Francisco, California," the media invite read, as reported by Gamespot.
The style of the promo art, as posted by Kotaku, appears to be quite similar to that of Battlefield 3. Although it features the same soldier as before, more armored vehicles and city back drop could be spotted in the new artwork. The highly detailed male character is shown with a sniper rifle and pistol and the game appears to be set around the same near-future setting as Battlefield 3. The in-set pictures of blurred cityscape in the background depict a striking resemblance to Shanghai.
Also, this Vine post from the official Battlefield Twitter account says, "Straight from the video editing suite: Prepare 4 Battle - 03.27! This sneak peek now, more soon."
The new version of the game is expected to feature a higher online multiplayer player count in addition to upgraded visuals. Battlefield 4 will be using the Frostbite 2 game engine similar to its predecessor.
Battlefield 4 was originally announced back in July 2012 when EA revealed that a beta for the game will be launched during fall 2013. DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson had hinted in August 2012 that the next-generation version of the game will stay in the modern era setting. "There's a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans' feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It's not just one single thing," Troedsson said. "And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can't comment any more on that game because it's all secret," he added.
