Final Fantasy hardly needs an introduction. The franchise has roots back to the 80's with up to 14 entries in the main series, and a million spin-offs. With the next generation of consoles looming over our heads, multiple Final Fantasy games are bound to enter the scene; however, we would love to see some of the classics remade for a complete and brand new experience.
The following games are titles that we have played. You may or may not see your favorites among the list, so instead bashing our skulls in, just create your own little list in the comments area, isn't that more civilized? Of course it is.
Here we go:
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 6 was the very last game in the series on the Super Nintendo; the game is considered by some as the best in the franchise and seems to have a fairly strong following in and outside of Japan. The game takes place in a world ruined by the evil Emperor Gestahl, and the main antagonist, Kefka, a super soldier who dresses in a clown's attire.
The main protagonist is Terra Branford, a half human and half Esper girl (Espers are magical beings.) Her and a team of 13 other playable characters, set out throughout the game to destroy Kefka who has set the world in an unbalanced state very close to destruction.
You might be wondering then, why should Final Fantasy 6 be remade for a next generation experience. Simple, the characters are amazing, right down from the main protagonist to the evil Kefka. The story is another aspect of the game that propels it to greatness; it is the single greatest element in Final Fantasy 6. Furthermore, the ever changing landscape should be a joy to experience in full 3D, I'm not sure if any other Final Fantasy game pulled a stunt like that before or after.
Final Fantasy
Right here is the game that started it all, the single game that brought a company out of certain death. We all know the story of how Final Fantasy was to be the final game to be developed by Square. All plans to shut the company down went to the dogs when the game experienced relative success. To date, Final Fantasy has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide, not bad for an old schooler.
Final Fantasy's story and characters are not the best, but it brought about a new gameplay style and a large world that managed to keep players interested. There is no single main character here, as the game begins with three Light Warriors who turned out to be the heroes of Final Fantasy. Nothing much is known about them, the important thing was these guys possessed what it took to defeat Chaos, the archdemon.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Crisis Core is a prequel to Final Fantasy 7, taking place before the events we've all come to fall in love with. You play as Zack Fair, a friend of Sephiroth before he became that guy who wanted to kill everyone and merge as one with the planet in Final Fantasy 7.
Why should Square remake Crisis Core? Here's the thing, it's the beginning of all things Final Fantasy 7, by remaking the game, gamers could get excited for a possible remake of Final Fantasy 7 to continue and ultimately end the story.
Final Fantasy: Tactics
Forget all the bad press about Tactics; this is a great game and Square Enix's first foray into a Final Fantasy game that focuses on strategy. Tactics differs greatly than other Final Fantasy games where the battle system is concerned, and that is what makes it a classic. Player encounters take place on a three dimensional battle field instead of a generic battle screen.
Moving on the battlefield composes of square tiles, which can determine the range of movements and the type of action that can be taken. Random battles are also slightly taken away in Tactics, as players no longer run around blind not knowing what's ahead. On the wordmap, players can tell where they will most likely come across encounters due to preset locations marked in green
Final Fantasy: Tactics could be formidable next generation title, but that's only if it is done well. There aren't many strategy games on consoles, and if Tactics is remade, it could usher in a flood of strategy focused RPGs instead of the horde of hack-n-slahers.
Final Fantasy 7
You knew it was coming. The game that began the popularity of JRPG in the west, the game that many players claim to have made them cry due to certain events that took place, the game almost every Final Fantasy fan wants to see come to life in full 3D fashion. Final Fantasy 7 was a fantastic game, but these days the title feels old and underwhelming. For many fans, Final Fantasy in its current form is relatively OK, but for those who are playing the game for the first time; it's an unplayable experience that seriously needs a complete overhaul.
It's hard to find fault with a game so beloved, but one glaringly obvious one is the English text. It seems as though the person who did the translation was either high, or didn't know much about the English language. There were so many mistakes that one would believe Google Translate was used instead of a real life translator.
With the coming of both the PS4 and the Xbox 720, maybe, just maybe, the prayers of fans can finally be answered.
