"Assassin's Creed" movie wants to showcase a different kind of realism by letting a stunt double to do a terrifying 125-feet jump. High falling in action movies is usually done through wires or with an aide of computer graphics. But Damien Walters, a popular British stuntman, chose to do the leap of faith and stood on a platform which is suspended by two cranes in the air.
In an interview by Total Film magazine, the stunt double believes that what he did was really cool. Indeed, not everyone will have the chance to do a 125-feet high jump. Damien Walters said that "Assassin's Creed" movie director Justin Kurzel did not force him. During rehearsal, they started at 70 feet and just kept on moving higher. At 110 feet, Kurzel was telling him that he does not need to do the terrifying jump, but the 34-year-old Freerunner was all too willing.
Jumping at 125 feet takes more than just courage. "Assassin's Creed" movie's stunt double said that he also has to consider how he lands on the 10 x 10-meter landing bag. Landing on his back is as important as not missing the bag at all. The weather is also an important factor to make the jump safe as the wind can hit the sides of the bag and turn it on the other side.
"Assassin's Creed" movie is an adaptation of the popular video game from Ubisoft but show runners made sure that even non-players can appreciate the film. The story centers on Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) who was able to unlock his genetic memories. He, then, discovers that his descendants belong to the Assassins, which is a mysterious secret society.
According to some reports, the highly anticipated video adaptation's running time is 120 minutes. Now, that's a long haul that will keep moviegoers entertained. "Assassin's Creed" movie will hit the silver screen on Dec 21.
