A "Ray Donovan" Season 5 premiere date is definitely happening with Showtime's announcement last August to renew the show for another season. What is left for now is to endure the long wait until it arrives and probably enjoy some of the spoilers that is due to come out from time to time.
Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber) Living In a Bubble Of Security
When "Ray Donovan" Season 5 premiere date arrives, fans may reasonably expect Liev Schreiber's character to be living in some sort of bubble of security. In an interview with TV Line, showrunner David Hollander confirms that last season's finale felt like some chapter of Ray's life has closed with a lot of loose ends being tied up rather neatly.
For instance, the Russian mob headache is now gone, Abby's cancer is in remission and Ray finally made some sort of peace with his spiritual crisis. In fact, Hollander admits that as far as Liev Schreiber's character and his family are concerned, it's a "relatively blank page" for them to start over again with the arrival of "Ray Donovan" Season 5 release date next year.
But the problem with bubbles, as everyone knows, is that they have a tendency to burst. Of course, showrunner David Hollander is not likely to make everything to be peachy for Liev Schreiber's character Ray, that would be too boring and unworthy of Showtime's highest rating series.
And that might just be where "Ray Donovan" Season 5 is heading. For instance, when David Hollander was pressed if Abby's cancer remission is permanent, the showrunner preferred to keep mum on the issue. Instead, he offered that Ray needed to hear that everything is safe but whether it's true or not, fans will have to find it out for themselves when "Ray Donovan" Season 5 premiere date comes. Is this the showrunner's hint that Ray's bubble of security will eventually burst next season?
Liev Schreiber Character To Die In An Accident?
On a positive note, Liev Schreiber's character might not have meet a tragic ending after all. Previously, it was speculated that Ray would meet an accident in the coming "Ray Donovan" Season 5.
But that type of ending is not what Hollander has in mind. When asked whether the showrunner would opt to kill off Liev Schteiber's character, Hollander firmly said no and explained that he would not go that route as it is "the easy way out of the storytelling," reports The Hollywood Reporter.
