After "Civilization IV," players missed the multiple leaders per civilization story angle. However, that is about to change with "Civilization VI." Firaxis and 2K have confirmed a second leader for Greece. Fans are elated after the alternate leaders were confirmed for the Greek Civilization as well as for future additions.
Gorgo, Sparta's Queen, is now an alternate choice when players are in the Greek Civilization. The official "Civilization VI" Facebook page has also revealed that Pericles and Gorgo can be in the same match. The "CIVILIZATION VI - First Look: Greece (Gorgo)" YouTube video reveals that Gorgo rules the Sparta side of Greece.
Gorgo's military units can generate Culture once they kill enemy units. This is made possible by Gorgo's Leader Passive. She also possesses other passives unique to the Greek Civilization. Gorgo's Spartan Greece may share city names with Pericles' Athens side of Greece.
With Gorgo's addition, the difference between Civilization Passives and Leader Passives has come to light. Previous reveals had also mentioned Civilization and Leader passives separately. The "Civilization VI" Reddit thread has also confirmed that alternate leaders can both exist in the game.
Thus, players can now enjoy multiple leaders and same Civilizations in one match. Every leader will provide different bonuses and passives as they use tools as per their Civilizations. As of now, multiple leaders have been confirmed only in Greece. Hopefully other historical leader will slowly become playable in "Civilization VI."
Now that alternate leaders have been included in the game, future game modes may also recreate known warfare periods once a Civilization gets enough leaders. Such periods may include the American Civil War, the World Wars, Sengoku Jidai etc.
The "Civilization VI" launch is very near as it will be out for PC on Oct. 21. For more updates on the game, stay tuned on GameNGuide.
