Rebecca Sugar, the creator of "Steven Universe" became the first female creator of a Cartoon Network Series. Voices under the gems shared how they appreciate Sugar's creation.
According to the creator, the making of "Steven Universe" has never been easy to get it on board to Cartoon Network. She says there's always been setbacks and there were also arguments that she had to tackle with in order to fully get what she wants.
"Steven Universe" is all about Steven being surrounded by powerful female gems. He has been taught with his powers through this three magical guardians. Polygon relayed that his character has been made with an unusual feeling until he reaches puberty stage which made him struggle. The series features same sex feelings as well.

Through "Steven Universe," Sugar also shared about her insecurities before as she wasn't sure about her feelings and that there was nobody that she could share it with. Also, she came out regarding her bisexual standing earlier this year. Sugar could now share her feelings and according to her, this is to normalize this kind of relationships.

CBS News wrote that the voices behind gem characters in "Steven Universe" comprises of Jennifer. Lapiz Lazuli says she loves the irony and she can control water which is funny. Shelby Rabara who was the voice behind Peridot says, she can see herself with Peridot's character being spectrum. As for Charlyne Yi who voiced Ruby, she emailed Sugar congratulating her for doing something so special and important.
