The circle of people who know about the next Xbox is about to get bigger at Microsoft's fiscal 2014 event in Washington this week.
Microsoft holds an annual "Financial Year" event, which includes a series of special presentations for various divisions of the company. Some of the discussions at this year's event, "Start FY14," features a set of Xbox-related events including "Xbox Platform Deep Dive," "Xbox Games" and "Xbox Gold and Entertainment."
It's entirely possible, if not likely, that many of these discussions will include strategy and detailed information for Microsoft's next-gen console during the sessions. When the Examiner asked Microsoft if the Xbox 720 would be discussed, Microsoft replied: "The rumored 'event' is an internal meeting that happens every year. We have nothing further to share at this time."
Here's where things get tricky: According to Twitter's Superannuation the event may be used to set the groundwork for a public unveiling, suggesting that "select press" may be attending what is normally a completely closed event:
"Wait, select press are going to be at the Microsoft fiscal year 2014 event this week? I thought that it was MS partners only. Hmm."
In response Sinead Purcell, a PR agent who has worked with Microsoft, tweeted that the event is "internal only, no press."
While its unclear if the event will lead directly to more publically leaked information about the next Xbox, if the event triggers a larger group of people getting access to sensitive information, then there's an increased chance for new leaks.
Rumors suggest that Microsoft is preparing to unveil the next Xbox at a special media event next month.
