Joel Embiid, known as "The Process," could possibly be the next NBA MVP. He also could be Philadelphia 76ers greatest player even surpassing Allen Iverson and Dr. J. The 22 year old basketball player has exceeded all expectations as he keeps on shooting three pointers during the preseason.
In June 2014 and August 2015, Joel Embiid had two two navicular bone surgeries in his right foot. The surgical procedures caused him to lay low in his NBA career for a while. But now, he has gained more weight, exceeding his 250 pounds during his draft day. His target weight for the opening night is 270 pounds.
One player that might cast a shadow in Joel Embiid's rise to stardom is Memphis' Marc Gasol who is also praised for his versatility, power, shooting skills, defense and finesse in the court. Gasol stands 7.1 feet and weighs 265 pounds, but Embiid said that he cannot wait to go against the two-time NBA all-star.
Marc Gasol, named as the NBA's defensive player of the year in 2012-13, has average points of 14.3 points, rebounds of 7.8, assists 3.1 and blocked shots of 1.5. Meanwhile, Joel Embiid showed his strength against Al Horford and Amir Johnson of Boston Celtics, Marcin Gortat of Washington, and Chris Andersen of Cleveland.
Brett Brown, Philadelphia 76ers coach, said in a report by NBC that they will increase Joel Embiid's playing time of 12 minutes to 20 or 24. By October 25, Brown is confident that they can deliver their rookie on a higher level. Currently, Embiid's average points are 7.7 and 3.7 rebounds.
It may be a long way for Joel Embiid to be the next NBA MVP but the he just wants to keep on getting better every day. Stay tuned to GameNGuide for the latest NBA news and update.
