At New York Comic Con, the new trailer for the upcoming, "John Wick: Chapter 2," was launched. The video showcased the hero, the setting, as well as several action-packed scenes. Lionsgate and Starbreeze also revealed that they are developing a virtual reality game based on the franchise.
Geek reported that the new game, titled "John Wick Chronicles," is a VR title for HTC Vive. The Lionsgate and Starbreeze booth showcased a demo, "John Wick Chronicles: An Eye for an Eye," where players took on the role of Baba Yaga (Keanu Reeves). During the demo, players wielded a handgun and got to experience the effects of firing it. At one point in the "John Wick" demo, players were taken to a hotel from the first film where Lance Reddick welcomed the protagonist. Testers were also taken to other locations, made to try other weapons and encountered enemies.
Variety stated that the "John Wick: Chapter 2" film is actually a prequel, set in Rome. Wick will be forced out of retirement and heads to Rome to battle some a deadly assassin's guild. Derek Kolstad serves as writer and Chad Stahelski serves as director of the second film. Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Common, Bridget Moynahan, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose and John Leguizamo will appear in the movie. Common will play the main villain in the second "John Wick" film.
So far, the "John Wick" VR game teased a fun and dynamic experience on the HTC Vive. The controls were smooth and responsive, while the graphics were impressive. Players expect the storyline to go deeper when the game actually launches. As for the "John Wick" prequel, it is expected to feature several of the original elements that made the first film successful and more. The trailer showed Baba Yaga singly taking on the international group of killers, relying only on his deadly skills and wrath.
"John Wick Chronicles" is expected to launch on Steam at about the same time that the "John Wick: Chapter 2" film will be released on Feb. 10, 2017. The game is already available for pre-ordering. More updates and details are expected soon.
