Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella tweeted that his company will "be" at E3 2013 today.
Respawn was created by Zampella and Jason West, the duo who co-founded Infinity Ward, created Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and subsequently fled from Activision, their publishing partner. The company has been working with EA on an unnannounced game since 2010. Now after three years, it sound like they're ready to talk about what they're doing.
"I've gotten a 'few' questions about @e3expo plans this year," wrote Zampella. "Yes, we will finally be at E3!"
Despite its high-profile creators and turbulent history, Respawn has kept a surprisingly tight grip on the flow of information about their game. There's almost no information about what Respawn's been up to. At E3 2011, then-EA Games president Frank Gibeau said that Respawn's game would be a "sci-fi shooter" that would compete with "Halo" and "Gears of War." Beyond that, the company has released a few blurred out images over the last couple of years. That's it.
As for the announcement, the tweet is extremely vague: While it's easy to assume that Zampella means the studio will be unveiling their game at E3 in June, it's possible that Respawn may simply show the game at E3, aftering announcing the game at an event beforehand. EA's E3 keynote would seem like the logical place for an announcement of that size, but with Microsoft possibly announcing the next Xbox in April, there may be bigger and better opportunities to make a first impression.
