Sony Cuts European PS4 Developer List From 53 to 28

Sony has retracted original their list of European and PAL territory-based developers who are making games for the PS4. Where the original list claimed the 53 developers were working on next-gen software for Sony, the new list has shortened to 28.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe says the original list, which was released last week after Sony's PS4 unveiling, was sent out in error. Meanwhile, SCEE also confirmed that the public rosters of software partners from other regions have been verified as accurate.

Here's the new, concise list of European and PAL-based PS4 developers:

  • Avalanche Studios
  • Blitz Games Studios
  • Bohemia Interactive
  • CD Projekt RED
  • Climax Studios
  • Hello Games
  • Just Add Water (Developments), Ltd.
  • Deep Silver
  • Lucid Games Ltd
  • MercurySteam
  • Ninja Theory Ltd
  • Nixxes Software BV
  • Paradox Interactive
  • Rebellion
  • Saber Interactive
  • Creative Assembly
  • IO Interactive
  • Starbreeze Studios
  • 2K Games
  • Team 17 Digital LTD
  • Yager
  • Zen Studios
  • keen games
  • Splash Damage
  • Stainless Games Ltd
  • Sumo Digital
  • Codemasters
  • TT Games

The new list seems to trade small indie developers like Super Crate Box-maker Vlambeer and Skulls of the Shogun's 17-Bit, for few high-profile studios, including 2K Games, IO Interactive, Ninja Theory, and CD Projekt RED, who's already confirmed that The Witcher 3 will come to PS4 in 2014.

Despite the changes, it seems that some developers' connections to the new console aren't so easily defined. Sony's new list may not be completely accurate either, though: According to JoystiqNaughty Bear developer 505 Games is "definitely" working on a game for Sony's next console. 505 was on the original list of developers, but not the second version. Though the title of the list, "Third-Party Developers and Publishers," is broad, it's possible that the list was curiated with more specific criteria.
