Though Kingdom Hearts 3 remains a game unannounced, Square Enix is looking to bring the series back into the conversation. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix, an HD compilation of the franchise's handheld side-stories, is coming to North American PS3s this Fall.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix is essentially two and a half games that serve to refresh fans' memories of the series' larger fiction. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, a Japan-only remaster of the original Kingdom Hearts, adds new abilities, gummi ship missions, and other secondary content. Kingdom Hearts: RE Chain of Memories technically bridges the gap between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, but spends a long time retreading the events of the first game, albeit from a different angle.
In addition to the two games, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 will include the cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, a DS game elaborating on Roxas, Organization XIII, and other elements of series' larger fiction established in Kingdom Hearts II. After playing this game, players will be fully re-inducted to the madness of the Kingdom Hearts franchise.
Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura has teased "movement" on the long-awaited third chapter in the series primary storyline before, though there's been nothing to show for it. While another re-release of old games doesn't deviate from the series' persistant holding pattern, the move to bring Kingdom Hearts back to home consoles could be a sign of bigger things.
