Samgsung's Gear VR has changed the way people use their smartphones, making it one of the most enjoyable experiences to date. The Samsung Gear VR was released during the holidays in 2015 and is compatible with the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/S6 Edge+, Galaxy S7/S7 Edge or Galaxy Note 7 devices.
The latest issue surrounding users of these devices, however, specifically the Samsung Galax S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, is that the battery gets drained way too fast while using the Samsung Gear VR. According to Mashable, some users reported a 1% battery drain for every 30 seconds of Gear VR use. Because of the battery drain issues users of the Gear VR have been experiencing on their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, Oculus has issued an update to address them.
Tech Times reports that some users have been forced to delete the app from their phone to avoid battery drain issues. This is because users have been experiencing battery drain issues despite the app not running in the background on their Samsung Galax S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge devices. Some have reported that once they've removed the app and rebooted their devices, the battery usage went back to normal.
Oculus has released a statement to Gizmodo, encouraging Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge users not to delete the app from their phone and instead just update it. Their latest update addresses battery drain issues. The company said that users need not delete the app and merely update it to do away with the battery drain issues.
This news comes following the massive recall of Samsung Galaxy Note7 after numerous reports of battery overheat and explosion. Various U.S. safety agencies have issued in-flight safety announcements, discouraging users of the Galaxy Note7 from bringing it aboard on airplanes or leaving it in luggage. This amounted to a multi-million loss for Samsung, which has changed their battery provider to address the issue.
