"Mulan" is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. The original animated "Mulan" which was released in 1998 followed the story of the daughter of an aged warrior who took his father's place in the military by disguising herself as a man. "Mulan" went on to become a national hero and one of the most skilled warriors in the army.
According to MTV News, the original animated "Mulan" was a blockbuster that it earned $304.3 million worldwide.
A director for the live-action retelling of "Mulan" has yet to be announced. Also, as of the moment, no actress has been selected to play the character of "Mulan." Disney is currently in the process of finding one. In fact, it has launched a global casting search for a Chinese actress to play the role.
The live-action project of "Mulan" was announced as early as last year and so, the fans had quite a time to raise their concerns about casting choices. They were afraid that a "Hollywood whitewashing" treatment may occur. The global casting search is the by-product of a petition that garnered over 100, 000 signatures.
It is a good thing that Disney addressed the concern of the fans. Fans should just wait a little more for the announcement of the cast of the live-action "Mulan."
