Kilgrave (David Tennant) is dead and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and the world is now safe from being manipulated by the villain, so what's next for the superhero-turned-private-investigator? Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg recently had an interview with Esquire to talk about what's ahead in "Jessica Jones" Season 2, referencing the trauma that the protagonist had to go through. Jessica's archnemesis from season 1 is already dead but the trauma lingers on.
Rosenberg explained in the interview that Jessica is already "messed up" way before Kilgrave happened so "Jessica Jones" Season 2 should be able to explored what the superheroine could do to move on. "People don't just heal, you don't go through that just to say, 'Oh, he got arrested, he's in jail, I'm OK now,'" the showrunner said. "That trauma is a huge part of who she is now." Although Kilgrave died at the hands of Jessica instead of going to jail, it still applies to her situation.
Now that Kilgrave's out of the picture, people will look forward to the villains that will be featured in "Jessica Jones" Season 2. It's been established that it's hard to top Tennant's performance as the mind-controlling villain but things might get interesting since Rosenberg hinted that there could be multiple villains in the upcoming season.
The showrunner is determined not to reveal anything yet when it comes to villains as she doesn't want to spoil a good surprise. However, ScreenRant speculated that Nuke, or in the Netflix series Will Simpson played by Wil Traval, could be one of the villains in "Jessica Jones" Season 2.
Will's fate wasn't sealed yet in season 1 and it's possible that his backstory will be explored in the upcoming "Jessica Jones" Season 2. Another possible villain is Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), best friend to Jessica who could be the one that gets in her way. However, this was made clear by Rosenberg that the intimate relationship between Trish and Jessica will be a huge part in the sophomore season.
"I'm interested in continuing to explore the relationship between Trish and Jessica. That is the core relationship in the piece," Rosenberg told EW. "Jessica Jones" Season 2 episodes won't be released until after other Marvel series have aired, with 2017 and 2018 as the earliest and latest pegged date, respectively.
