"It might be the end of an era," Benedict Cumberbatch told GQ UK about "Sherlock" Season 4 as he graced the magazine's cover. "It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately." Although it looks like it will be the end of the British-American crime drama television series, the 40-year-old star cleared that they will "never say never on the show."
If "Sherlock" Season 4 will be, indeed, the swan song of the much-loved detective stories, Benedict Cumberbatch promised that he would keep revisiting the show. Does that mean "Sherlock" would only have Special episodes? The "Doctor Strange" actor also explained that they all have their respective works in the meantime that they have to finish before they go on with it. However, nothing is final yet for the future of "Sherlock" and so, fans still have to wait how things will unfold, as per Deadline.

Meanwhile, there are a lot of hints that "Sherlock" Season 4 would be the final installment of the Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman lead TV series. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con in July, co-creator Steven Moffat didn't mention anything about "Sherlock" Season 5 renewal. The 54-year-old TV writer even revealed that he won't be surprised if "Sherlock" Season 4 would be their last take as its two lead stars both have busy schedules.
TVLine reported that Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and even Steven Moffat, who is also busy filming "Doctor Who," are all having a hard time to fit "Sherlock" Season 4 in their schedules. In fact, it took them three years to finally come and finished "Sherlock" Season 4. But they didn't confirm anything about the show's ending, only described it as the darkest thing that fans will ever witness. BBC One has yet to announce the exact air date of "Sherlock" Season 4, but many believe it would be on January 2017.
